Welcome to Thriving Dad!

This site is dedicated to sharing thoughts and discussion for individuals seeking to evaluate and elevate the way we live our lives.  We all have the choice to assess and ask ourselves: what is a good life and how best can I live mine?  The notion of a ‘Thriving Dad’ combines the best of fatherhood, family life, career success, and greater contribution to the world.  We seek to thrive both in our short-term goals and our long-term vision of the life we want to lead (see Why Thrive and My Story).

I encourage you to comment, share, and send your stories of living a Thriving Life (see Contact).  Together, we can learn and, collectively, achieve more.

About me

First and foremost, I define myself by my role as part of a family: (1) as a son and sibling with my family growing up, and (2) as a father and husband with the family my wife and I have created.  We have three beautiful children (born in 2009, 2011, 2013) who continue to grow and amaze us every day.  Here is a picture of us enjoying a West Coast sunset together:

Professionally, I am an economist, consultant, and part-time entrepreneur.  I earn my living as an expert witness and economic consultant for businesses and attorneys.  I earned undergraduate degrees in economics and mathematics from the University of Maryland, and a PhD in economics from Princeton.  I am passionate about creating economic value, growing businesses, improving work processes, and promoting career success.

I am an economist, so I view most issues through that lens and perspective.  Yet my own Dad is a psychiatrist and my wife has her PhD in psychology and neuroscience — so I like to say that I have honorary degrees in the brain.  I am obsessed with the study of business, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, management, performance, psychological well being, and broad human thriving.

Personally, I strive to be a good person, to contribute to the world, and to seek beauty and creation.  I admire ability and achievement.  I value human goodness and promote it as best I can.  I seek balance, truth, integrity, and thriving in my own life and in the lives of others.  In the words of Adam Smith: I strive to be loved and to be lovely.

This website is dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and discussion, particularly in the areas of Career, Parenting, Investing, and Living.  See My Story for how this website came to exist.  I don’t have all the answers (not even close!), or even all the questions.  But I do have the interest to dig deeper and promote the best of human potential.  I encourage you to join me.
